Error code: Internet_31

So you have eventually discovered the reason why ActiveSync was not connecting to your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 was because of a certificate problem. ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2002, 2003 or Smartphone, under "Synchronize with Server", clicking on Errors, gave some message terminating with Error code: Internet_31.

 

Error code: Internet_7

So you have eventually discovered the reason why ActiveSync was not connecting to your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 was because of a certificate problem. ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2002, 2003 or Smartphone, under "Synchronize with Server", clicking on Errors, gave some message terminating with Error code: Internet_7.

 

Error code: 0x80004005

So you have eventually discovered the reason why ActiveSync was not connecting to your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 was because of an odd problem. ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2002, 2003 or Smartphone, under "Synchronize with Server", clicking on Errors, gave some message terminating with Error code: 0x80004005.

Try to rename or delete sync.log file (Windows/ActiveSync) on your mobile device,
or
Do a full hard reset, which will involve having to reinstall and set everything up all over again....

Try Synchronizing again. It'll hopefully either work (unlikely) or come up with some different error message.

 

Error code: HTTP_403

So you have eventually discovered the reason why ActiveSync was not connecting to your Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 was because of an odd problem. ActiveSync on your Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2002, 2003 or Smartphone, under "Synchronize with Server", clicking on Errors, gave some message terminating with HTTP_403.

This worked for me:
Try Synchronizing again. It'll hopefully either work (unlikely) or come up with some different error message.

The issue is that your Exchange Server does not have a certificate that your mobile can believe in. Sad, but such things happen. Mention it to your Exchange Admin, but ignore anything else they might say (unless it is some quite salacious gossip, in which case hurry to a terminal and post it on the internet, hmm, I'm digressing).

Here is some blurb I picked up:

INTERNET_45

INTERNET_45 (ERROR_INTERNET_INVALID_CA): Synchronization failed. The security certificate on the server is invalid. Contact your system administrator or ISP to install a valid certificate on the server and try again.

Explanation: The synchronization client tried to validate the certificates, but it detected that a certificate that is not valid is installed.
User Action: Install a valid certificate on the server, and then try to synchronize again.

By default, the following root certificates are installed on Pocket PC 2002 devices.

If you are using a certificate that is not trusted, you can turn off certificate validation on the device by using a .cab file that is provided in the Support\Tools\Disable SSL folder on the Microsoft Mobile Information CD. Copy the AS_Cert_OFF.cab file to your device, and then run the program on your device.

Well what you actually need is this:

DisableCertChk

inside here are three files:

Certchk.exe
Disable Certificate Check.doc
eula.txt

The "Disable Certificate Check.doc" will tell you what to do, but if you can't be doing with reading that, 'cause you're already more than a little annoyed with PocketPC problems...

Open a command prompt,
certchk query will tell you what the current status is.
It should report Certificate checking is now ON.

certchk off will switch the checking to off.

Try Synchronizing again. It'll hopefully either work (unlikely) or come up with some different error message.

Windows AT command

Why like this?

AT 07:00 /EVERY:1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26,27,28,29,30,31 cmd /c C:\scripts\script.cmd

I want the script to run at 7 am every day. Now if I put the days of the week, M, Tu, W etc. it will trip up if someone changes the locale, so is safer to put the numbers for each day in the month.

The cmd /c is because I want to run a cmd script or batch file, AT only works on .exe files, so giving it cmd.exe makes it happy.

Holiday, Day 11 of 12

Went to the Zoo in Copenhagen, and then to a petshop called Zoo City.

The Zoo was interesting, lots of information about all sorts of animals, yet the petshop also had lots of information, more infact, didn't cost anything to get in, you could get closer to the animals, and they gave detailed information about the animals on A4 photocopies.

Hmm, which is better? The Zoo had much bigger animals and a restaurant ...

Holiday, Day 10 of 12

Today we visited the Experimentarium. This is a science type of entertainment, mainly for children, although I quite enjoyed it myself. Quite expensive to get in, but a lot to see and do.

On one of the exhibits a member of the party received an incredible set of blood pressure results. As everyone else's readings seemed normal, they were taken to see a doctor as soon as possible. Doctor pronounced the machine faulty and their blood pressure OK.

Holiday, Day 9 of 12

Took in a trip to Arken, a modern art exhibit. One of us nearly got thrown out for getting too close to an exhibit.

How was she supposed to know it was art? :-)

Then on to the Vikingeskibsmussete in Roskilde, and how lovely, the Sun came out as we walked around the harbour and thoroughly enjoyed chatting to staff and researchers who work there. Lovely place and so interesting.

As today is a Monday many of the attractions in Denmark are either closed or reduced opening.

So decided to have a rest day today.

A wander around Denmark Aquarium, in Charlottelund. Watched them feeding all the different sorts of fishes.

The Archer fish were amusing.

 

Holiday, Day 6 of 12

Visited the Danish Transport Museum. Drove up to Helsignor and a little look around.

Found an Orchid grower and had a look at the varieties for sale.

Everything has gone deathly quiet. So quiet even the birds are shocked into silence. Only the rumble of a train in the distance is heard.

It is Sunday, everything is stopped whilst all the farm workers go to church.

The quiet will only last as long as the vicars sermon.

Bringing in the sheafs

One truckload of wheat about every five minutes coming in from the fields.

My tractor drivers, permies versus contract, are having a little competition: they have got it into their heads that the one doing the most runs from the fields to the grain driers gets to borrow my Gallardo for a weekend.

The way they are driving them tractors is making me have second thoughts about that one.

But they have to be done by Tuesday night as it is forecast to rain Wednesday early morning, and the straw has to be off the fields too.

We're using two methods of bailing, the old oblong type and the newer circular ones. The trucks carrying the circular ones carry 9 bales at time, 6 on the floor three on top. The truck + pile is higher than the house. The way they come around the corner is a little worrying too, think I might move the cars further down the garden.

A walk down Strøget from Radhuspladsen to Nyhavn. A nice boat ride around the harbour. Then dinner in Nyhavn.

In Sweden, Malmö they have set up a "living library" from this you can borrow a: Lesbian, Muslim, Dane, Journalist, Gypsy, Blind man, Animal Rights Activist...

This is so you can work out your prejudices.

Holiday, Day 4 of 12

A trip around Roskilde looking at the sites, looking in the shops. Parked in a shopping parking place that only allows 2 hours. Don't know of any longer stay places, except those right at the bottom of the hill...

Bumped into a couple who said they were from Manchester, yet he sounded a little Danish and she sounded Welsh. Turns out he was from Denmark, but had spent a good few years in Manchester where he met her and she had moved to Manchester for work. A little light rain shower killed the conversation and into the Domkirke to look around this beautiful cathedral.

Then a trip down the side of the Fjord stopping and looking in at a pet shop cum garden centre cum pond shop near Aegrup.

Holiday, Day 3 of 12

Dyrhavn, Bakken and Zoo City.

Dyrhavn is a lovely large park to walk, cycle look at wildlife. Bakken is an amusement park in Dyrhavn.

Zoo City is a large pet shop outside Copenhagen.

 

Virtual PC/Windows CE Emulator

Out of the blue, well, I was too busy to take notice, I started getting this message when I booted windows:
'Virtual PC/Windows CE Emulator' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. Click here for more details.

Irritated by it this morning I have determined to find out the cause and remove it. So clicked, which took me to: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;891667 and read the info. Not a great deal of help, only gave a method for removing the message, not the problem.

Doing a websearch about problems with XP2 and drivers eventually threw up these two pages:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2mempr.mspx
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883775 , and listed in this last one are several files, so a search for each in turn is called for. Got a hit on that.

So the further investigation revealed that 'Physical Address Extension' comes in with Service Pack 2 (SP2) and a file VPCAppSv.sys is the cause. It must have been left over from something I have installed, used and removed as part of the day to day life of using a Windows machine.

So I find there are several ways to get rid of the error message.

  1. Fiddle with 'Physical Address Extension' i.e. remove /PAE from boot.ini or add /NOPAE if /PAE is not already there.
  2. Add a /NoExecute=AlwaysOff to boot.ini, this also has the effect of switching off 'Data Execution Prevention', don't think I like the sound of that, tried it, and removed it. Curiously though the machine appeared to boot and run slightly faster.
  3. Finally, just remove the offending driver, VPCAppSv.sys, as I am not using it. I like that one.

So, after deleting the offending file I find the message has gone away. Now my interest is piqued, what does this VPCAppSv.sys do? Another websearch is called for, and what do I find: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/wceintro5/html/wce50conMacallanReleaseNotes.asp , but a page that includes details about how to uninstall it! It would appear this file came in as part of Windows CE 5.0 and the uninstallation of that is not completely clean.

Holiday, Day 1 of 12

Arrived at the summer house. Inspect the facilities, go exploring the locale and to the local shops to buy stuff in for the next two weeks.

Go to Roskilde Rib House, (Djalma Lunds Gaard 5 B, 4000 Roskilde) for dinner.

Notice a good few people dressed in curious 60s fashion. Finally discover that later they will have a Jazz band playing. That explains the strange fashions.

 

The day a lost tiger brought the M11 to a standstill

Amy, a 10 year old, has a toy tiger called Tyrone. On a trip along the M11 Tyrone was sucked out of the open sunroof. Amys father, Mr Osborn, called the Police to see if they could recover said fluffy toy...

Essex police not only found Tyrone, but also set up a rolling road block so he could be recovered.

Amy said "They had to stop the traffic to get Tyrone. I think policemen are brilliant. I've had Tyrone for five years. He's my favourite bear

Talking heads are saying "what a waste of money" and the "amount of disruption was excessive".

Andrew Rosindell, Tory MP for Romford, said: "I think our police have a reputation for going the extra mile to satisfy the public - in that spirit I think it's all very well.

"But I think the disproportionate chaos that this would have caused and the cost involved, not to mention the fact that the police would not be out catching criminals, doesn't seem to justify the action taken.

"I'd prefer to see these officers on the streets and chasing burglars."

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Tyrone was spotted on the motorway and successfully captured and locked securely in the back of a police car.

"Rolling roadblocks were set up to allow the traffic officers to safely get out of their car and grab him.

"A phone call to dad in Ramsgate has resulted in one delighted daughter.

"We did not specifically task the officer to find Tyrone but, having children of his own, he knows the importance of toys to their owners.

"It was a minor inconvenience to motorists which I am sure would have been acceptable to all those who have experienced similar circumstances."

Police said Tyrone had been sent from Essex to Kent courtesy of Royal Mail, to be reunited with Amy.

I think maybe a childs smile was probably worth it.

Harry Potter and Horcruxes: a theory

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is Book 6 in the series by JK Rowling. I've just spent the last couple of days reading it.

I am getting to really like that Voldemort chap.

Anyways I have a theory on Horcruxes, well where one of them is: I believe we shall find the last Horcrux to actually be Harry Potter himself. Voldemort needs to kill as part of the spell to create a Horcrux, which he did to Harrys Parents. Also Harry Potter seems to have this unexplained strong connection to Voldemort. So the only way to be rid of Voldement for good would be when Harry Potter finally dies.

MI5 taking down terrorist websites?

Stories circulating in the UK press suggest that the British Authorities are taking down terrorist related websites.

I just find that so hard to believe. The UK is a bastion of free speech and expression.

Now if they said Gordon Brown (Chancellor of the Exchequer UK) had proposed a new tax on (suicide) bomber jackets. That, I could believe.
